Course Overview:
This course aims to improve knowledge and understanding of autism, providing an overview of what autism is and how it impacts daily life. Learners will explore common misconceptions and gain practical strategies to support autistic individuals effectively. The course also highlights the importance of a person-centred approach in communication, wellbeing, and care.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Understand learning disabilities and autism.
• Identify the most common types of autism.
• Recognise that individuals experience autism differently.
• Apply approaches that improve wellbeing for people with autism and learning disabilities.
• Understand the roles of carers and others in supporting autistic individuals.
• Identify factors that influence communication and interaction with autistic individuals.
• Implement person-centred approaches to encourage positive communication.
• Work in ways that ensure diverse needs are met.
• Understand key pieces of legislation relating to learning disabilities.
• Recognise what LeDeR is and its significance for individuals with learning disabilities and those in the care sector.
