
Basic First Aid
Course Overview:
Basic first aid (BFA) or basic life support covers essential life-saving first aid techniques, including the safe management of incidents and responding to unresponsive, non-breathing casualties. This course provides hands-on training in CPR, the chain of survival, and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Participants will also learn how to manage choking, wounds, and other first aid emergencies.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
• List actions to be taken in the event of an emergency occurring at their workplace.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including the use of an AED.
• Provide first aid to an unconscious casualty.
• Provide first aid to a choking casualty.
• Describe the correct actions to take in the control of wounds and bleeding.
• Respond appropriately to a range of other first aid situations.
