Dementia Awareness

Course Overview:
Dementia is a general term for impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interfere with daily activities. Although it commonly affects older adults, it is not a normal part of aging. This course helps care workers manage individuals with dementia, providing essential knowledge and strategies to improve care and support relationships.

By the end of the session, care workers will be able to:

• Understand how to improve care for people with dementia.

• Support relationships and communication with individuals with dementia.

• Identify reasons for difficult behaviours.

• Recognise the different types of dementia.

• Appreciate what it may be like to have dementia.

• Understand barriers to communication and how to overcome them.
