Course Overview:
This qualification is designed for those working or aiming to work in a residential childcare setting. It equips learners with the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required to support the well-being and development of children and young people in care.

The qualification enables the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge to support children and young people in residential childcare settings, including wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes. It also offers the learner the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.

New residential care workers will need to achieve the qualification within two years from employment

Entry Requirements: You don’t need any formal qualifications to enrol on this course. You do need to be working in a role with children and young people. Learners will need to produce full and articulate answers to questions. Learners will need to have a good standard of written and verbal communication skills.

  • The qualification will be assessed by a portfolio of evidence. Your personal assessor will conduct monthly meetings via Teams to review and develop your progress towards the qualification.

    All assessments need to be passed, and each will directly assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the qualification.

  • After this programme, you could progress to the Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
