iCQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.

Course Overview:
The qualification enables the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge for leading in a residential childcare setting, including leading and managing a team, leading and managing group living, leading practice to support children and young people, implementing policies and procedures.

The aim of the qualification is to improve the quality of care provided to vulnerable children and young people in residential care by guiding and assessing the development of knowledge and skills to confirm occupational competence.

The iCQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) has been developed to give

learners the opportunity to:

  • Demonstrate competence as a Residential Childcare manager

  • Develop knowledge, understanding and skills related to the leadership and management of practitioners in Residential Childcare

  • Have existing skills recognised

  • Engage in learning that is relevant to them, and which will provide opportunities to develop a range of skills and

  • Techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life

  • Achieve a nationally recognised Level 5 vocationally related qualification

  • Progress to employment in Residential Childcare

  • Progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications.

This qualification confirms competence in these areas and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector where appropriate.

Entry Requirements: You don’t need any formal qualifications to enrol on this course however It is recommended that Learners hold a Level 3 qualification in a related area. You do need to be working in a role with children and young people. Learners will need to produce full and articulate answers to questions. Learners will need to have a good standard of written and verbal communication skills.

    • Lead practice that supports positive outcomes for children and young people in residential childcare

    • Lead practice to support the safeguarding and protection of children and young people in residential childcare

    • Lead and develop practice for communication and information management in residential childcare settings

    • Lead and manage quality and improvement in residential childcare

    • Manage health, safety and risk in residential childcare

    • Lead and manage a service that supports children or young people who have experienced harm or abuse

    • Lead and develop practice to support the well-being and resilience of children and young people in residential childcare

    • Understand children and young people's development in residential childcare

    • Lead and manage group living for children and young people in residential childcare

    • Lead and manage positive relationships with children and young people

    • Understand the needs of vulnerable children and young people experiencing poverty and disadvantage

    • Work in partnership with others in residential childcare

  • The qualification will be assessed by a portfolio of evidence. Your personal assessor will conduct monthly meetings via Teams to review and develop your progress towards the qualification.

    All assessments need to be passed, and each will directly assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the qualification.

  • On completion of the iCQ Level 5 L5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (RQF) learners may progress into employment or onto the following iCQ qualifications: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management or similar higher-level qualifications Learners can also progress to the following job roles though further professional development/qualification may be required once in post: registered residential childcare managers, plus deputy and assistant managers, deputy and assistant managers in other adult or children and young people's social care settings.
