Awarded by ICQ • Ofqual Regulated • Nationally Recognised
The iCQ Level 2 Award in Food Allergen Awareness (RQF) is designed to provide learners with essential knowledge and understanding of food allergens and their management in catering and hospitality settings. | The qualification covers the legal responsibilities of food businesses, how to identify and control allergen risks, and how to communicate allergen information effectively to customers. Learners will also understand the importance of accurate food labelling and procedures to prevent cross-contamination. | This qualification is suitable for anyone involved in preparing, serving, or selling food, and is particularly important following the introduction of “Natasha’s Law” (October 2021), which requires clearer labelling of allergens in pre-packed food.
Learners will cover the following topics: | - Understanding the 14 regulated allergens and their effects | - Legal responsibilities for allergen management (including Natasha’s Law) | - Identifying allergen risks in food preparation and service | - Preventing cross-contamination | - Communicating allergen information to customers | - Correct use of food labels and packaging information | - Roles and responsibilities of staff in allergen control | - Emergency procedures in the event of an allergic reaction
The qualification will be assessed by a portfolio of evidence. Your personal assessor will conduct monthly meetings via Teams to review and develop your progress towards the qualification. | All assessments need to be passed, and each will directly assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the qualification.
